Lavender Lace - April 2010

Posted by lavenderlace1 on March 28, 2010 at 6:11 PM

Hi!  Ceud Mile Failte! (a hundred-thousand welcomes!),

Happy Tartan Day! Tartan week is the first full week in April. Wear your tartan daily and proudly! Tartan Day is April 6th every year. That is the anniversary of the signing of the Arbroath Declaration in 1320. You know, the Abroath Declaration is said to have provided some inspiration for the US Declaration of Independence? See more at www.TartanDay.org

Scottish Heritage Day at Fort King George was the first time I was totally by myself for an event. Honestly, the first couple of days were great – then I got pretty lonely. I had to go on Wednesday to be assured of hookups for the ‘V, and the event wasn’t until Saturday, so I was there for five days … by myself! I didn’t know anyone there, and had NO INTERNET (!) so I spent a lot of time reading and began a new cross stitch project. I met the vendor chair from Savannah in person (Hi, Sharon! See you in May!), made some contact with chairmen from Jacksonville, Florida (will Lavender Lace start their “Florida Tour 2011” a week earlier???), and Stone Mountain, Georgia (been trying to get in there for three years! I emailed, ladies!)

Our first April date, the Tartan Fest at the SC State Museum here in Columbia, is this weekend! Kelsey will be modeling in the fashion show at 12:30 ... which I will miss because I will be manning the tables. Celeste and all the folks down at the museum make it such a pleasure to be there every year! I have been asked to work on the steering committee for the Tartan Fest for next year – what an honor!

We are uber excited about attending the Loch Norman Highland Games this year (April 16-18)! You know, we have been going for years as “attendees”, and this year will be our first year as vendors! Kelsey will not be able to be with us, but George, Amanda and I will be camped out across the road from Rural Hill and probably will not have time to miss her!

We had to turn down an event this week. We did the event last year, but it was quite a drive and our sales volume was borderline, at best. I won’t mention the locale – we may go next year. The economy is on the upswing!

We also made first-time application to another games and festival that is a long drive away, but if we get it, we will be able to visit some family not too far from there! That makes those long drives extra special when we are able to visit with friends and family!

Well, back to making jewelry … it IS only eight months until Christmas, you know!

We are off to pack the RV for the road!

Slainte! (your health)
